Word Power

There is a power in words
a fact many have a passing knowledge of
but not as many truly know
Even fewer can really tap into it
Make others feel that power to their core
If you've read a book that resonated
really hit you and connected
then you've had a taste of that power
But strangely enough, all those stories
all those phrases and tales
don't have the same raw punch of power
felt by finding that one word
The one, that screeches your world to a halt
That both tears apart everything you thought you knew
about the world around you and yourself
But also defines it, defines you
giving a feeling of right that brings you to tears
It shakes you and it's terrifying
It stabilizes you and it's comforting
Something as small as a word, defined
and suddenly you know why
Why you feel like you do, why you act like you do
A definition that explains a part of yourself
and categorizes it into a neat box to free you
Because if you know what something is
to its very core and simplest parts
you can control it and build on it and strengthen it
There is nothing weaker than a house built with no foundation
Likewise a person built with holes will collapse
So when you find those words that strike you so hard
Cling to them, whether they're painful or not
And use their power to strengthen yourself
Because the day may come where you can let go or accept
of a word that defines you
But you can never let go or accept
something you don't know exists.
